Frome's BA11 housing stock is mixed, Georgian townhouses on Catherine Hill and Trinity, Victorian terraces, ex-mill conversions and modern estates around Critchill and Mount. We don't publish a price list because shower jobs vary a lot. The price depends on the shower's kW rating, the cable size and length of run back to the consumer unit, and whether the board has a spare way or needs replacing. A like-for-like swap on a sound circuit is a smaller job than a new circuit. We quote each job on its own merits, with a fixed price in writing before we start.
Yes, we've done several in Frome. Mill conversions usually have exposed brick walls and timber floors, so cables either run in containment along beam lines or get fed through service voids. We always agree the route with the leaseholder and management company first if it's a shared building.
Up to 8.5kW we use 6mm cable on a 32A breaker. From 9.5kW upwards (which is most modern showers) we use 10mm on a 40A breaker. Volt drop and run length matter too, for runs over 20m we'll often size up regardless. The shower manufacturer's manual sets the minimum, and we calculate the rest at survey.
BS 7671 Section 701 prohibits switches and sockets in Bathroom Zones 0, 1 and 2 (other than IP-rated specific products). A ceiling-mounted pull-cord is the standard way to isolate the shower without breaching zone rules. It's double-pole, located outside the danger zones, and lets you isolate the shower for cleaning or fault-finding without going to the consumer unit.
