FAQ
It depends on your car, your driveway and your supply. We’ll recommend from Hypervolt, Zappi, Ohme and Andersen — all fitted on Type A RCBO protection.
We’re an OZEV-registered installer, so we register the install; you then claim any grant you’re eligible for via the OZEV portal directly.
Usually not — we load-balance the charger to your existing supply. If anything’s needed we’ll tell you up front.
EV charger installation starts from around £850, covering the dedicated 32A circuit, all cabling, fitting and NAPIT certification. The charger unit is priced separately by model. Final price depends on the cable run and any consumer unit work.
It depends on your needs. Hypervolt 3 is our most popular for reliability. Easee is most compact. Ohme offers the best smart charging for Octopus Go users. Zappi is strong for myenergi ecosystem users.
Not always, but often yes. EV chargers require a Type A RCD with 6mA DC detection, which older consumer units don't have. We'll survey your board during the site visit.
A standard installation takes 3–4 hours. If the cable run is longer or a consumer unit upgrade is needed, it may take a full day.
The OZEV grant for homeowners ended in March 2024. However, grants are still available for landlords, tenants, and businesses through the Workplace Charging Scheme.

We register the install with OZEV (you claim via the OZEV portal directly), submit DNO notification (required for all installations above 3.68kW per BS 7671), and provide all compliance documentation including photographs and installation records.
OZEV grants
Up to £350 towards a home charger. The grant for owner-occupiers of houses closed in 2022 — it is now available to people living in rented or leasehold property, and to landlords installing for tenants, where there is eligible off-street parking. The property must not have previously received a grant under the EVHS or OZEV scheme.
Businesses, charities and public sector organisations can claim up to £350 per socket, for up to 40 sockets per applicant — that is up to £14,000 towards your workplace charging infrastructure. Eligible for any business with dedicated off-street parking.
You apply for the grant directly — we provide the OZEV-approved installer details and certification you’ll need to submit. For domestic, you need:
For the Workplace Charging Scheme, we register the install with OZEV and provide the post-installation evidence pack — installer declaration, photographs and certification — that you’ll submit via the OZEV online portal yourself.
Charging speeds
Maximum 7.4kW charging speed. Adds approximately 25–30 miles of range per hour. A typical EV (60kWh battery) charges from 20% to 80% in around 5 hours. More than sufficient for overnight home charging.
Up to 22kW charging speed. Adds approximately 75–90 miles of range per hour. Ideal for workplaces, fleet depots, hotels and destinations where faster turnaround is needed. Requires a three-phase supply — we can arrange upgrades through your DNO if required.
Your charging speed is limited by either the charger output or the vehicle’s onboard charger — whichever is lower. Most EVs accept 7kW AC; some (like Tesla Model 3 and BMW i4) accept 11kW; fewer accept the full 22kW. We advise on the right charger for your specific vehicle.
Both domestic and commercial installations require a site survey to confirm cable routes, supply capacity, main fuse rating and earthing arrangements. We provide free no-obligation surveys across our coverage area.
Technical requirements
EV chargers draw sustained high current — typically 32A continuous for hours. A properly designed dedicated circuit is non-negotiable for safety, performance, and compliance with BS 7671:2018+A2 Section 722.
6mm² twin-and-earth for internal runs up to 22m, or 10mm² SWA cable for longer external runs and underground routes. Cable sizing calculated per BS 7671 Appendix 4, accounting for volt drop (max 5%), grouping factors, thermal insulation and ambient temperature. We never undersize cables.
BS 7671 Regulation 722.531.2 requires Type A RCD protection with additional 6mA DC residual current detection for EV charging circuits. The chargers we install (Hypervolt 3, Ohme, Zappi, Easee, Andersen) all have integral 6mA DC fault detection, so a Type A RCBO at the consumer unit is all that’s required. No additional DC module or upgraded device needed.
All EV charger installations above 3.68kW require notification to your Distribution Network Operator per the Electricity Safety, Quality and Continuity Regulations 2002. Installations above 7kW (or multiple chargers) may require a supply capacity assessment — and in some cases a main fuse upgrade from 60A to 100A. We handle all DNO correspondence and applications.
We measure your existing demand and verify your main fuse rating (typically 60A, 80A or 100A). A 7kW charger draws 32A — if your existing peak demand is 40A on a 60A supply, there is a problem. We model your load profile and recommend solutions: supply upgrade, smart load management via CT clamp, or scheduled off-peak charging to stay within your capacity.
Most UK homes have PME (TN-C-S) earthing. BS 7671 Regulation 722.411.4.1 requires additional protective measures for EV charging on PME supplies due to the risk of a PEN conductor fault. Options include chargers with integral PEN fault detection (Andersen, some Easee units), installation of an earth rod to create a TT arrangement at the charger, or a separate TT earth electrode. We assess your earthing and implement the correct solution.
For properties with multiple chargers (or limited supply capacity), we install CT clamp-based dynamic load management. This monitors real-time household demand and throttles the charger output to prevent main fuse overload. Easee supports load balancing across up to 3 chargers natively. For larger installations, we configure OCPP-based load management systems.
Commercial solutions
From a single staff charger to a 40-bay car park, we design and install commercial EV charging infrastructure that scales with your business.
The shift to electric vehicles is accelerating. Employees expect workplace charging as standard. Offering it makes your business more attractive to talent and demonstrates genuine commitment to sustainability. We design workplace charging systems that work commercially:
Commercial installations require more than hardware. We configure charging management platforms that give you full control:
OZEV Workplace Charging Scheme: up to £350 per socket, up to 40 sockets per applicant (£14,000 maximum). We register the install with OZEV and provide the post-install evidence pack — you claim via the OZEV Workplace Charging Scheme portal yourself.
Fleet depots, workplace car parks, hotels and destination charging sites running multiple OCPP-connected chargers don’t just need power — they need reliable network infrastructure for cloud reporting, dynamic load management and driver authentication.
