We replace old fuse boxes and early RCD boards across Radstock with a metal consumer unit, a main switch and a Type A RCBO on every circuit, so one fault no longer takes out half the house.
Priced on your property, fixed in writing after we have seen the board.

If your Radstock house still has a board with wire fuses, plug-in fuses or a single RCD feeding every socket, it was fitted to an older standard. It may still work. The problem is what happens when something goes wrong: an old fuse may not disconnect quickly enough on a fault, and a single shared RCD means a faulty kettle can switch off the freezer, the lights and the boiler at the same time.
We only fit one type of board: a metal consumer unit with a double-pole main switch and a Type A RCBO on every circuit. Each RCBO combines overcurrent protection and residual current protection for its own circuit, so a trip stays local. We do not fit split-load or dual-RCD boards, at any price.
Before we quote we check what the board is feeding. Changing the board means testing every circuit connected to it, and a board change on top of wiring that fails insulation tests is money wasted. If the circuits are poor we tell you, and give you the cost of the board and the cost of the wiring work as separate figures.
Many of the town’s terraces were built for colliery families when Radstock was the centre of the Somerset coalfield, and their boards often sit in a cupboard under the stairs or high above the front door next to the meter. Space is tight, and the meter tails are sometimes too short or too thin to reach a new board in the same spot. We allow for new 25mm² flexible tails in every quote where they are needed.
The other common finding is missing or undersized main bonding to the incoming gas and water pipes. A new board does not fix that by itself, so where bonding is missing we include it in the price and show it as its own line.
Houses on the 1970s estates around Westfield usually have a board in the hall or garage with a mix of rewireable fuses and later additions. Those boards often have no spare ways, which is why extra circuits for a shower or garage have been bolted on beside them. A new RCBO board brings everything back into one enclosure.
Every board we fit is tested and certified, and the job is notified to Building Control through NAPIT.
The price depends on the number of circuits, the state of the existing wiring, and whether tails or bonding need replacing. We look first, at a survey or from a phone and photo consultation, then quote a fixed price in writing with VAT on a separate line. Quotes are free.
A standard board change is a single day. The power is off for most of it, so we plan around you.

Outside the town we change boards in Writhlington, Clandown, Haydon and Kilmersdon, and in the BA2 villages of Peasedown St John, Camerton, Dunkerton and Timsbury. Farmhouses and older cottages in those villages often have a separate supply to outbuildings, and we include those circuits in the test.
