A new consumer unit for your Midsomer Norton home with a main switch and a Type A RCBO on every circuit, so a fault in the garage no longer switches off the kitchen.
Every board priced individually, with a fixed written quote.

Many homes had their fuse board changed in the 1990s or 2000s for a split-load board: one or two RCDs, each protecting a group of circuits. It was a big improvement at the time. The drawback is that one RCD covers several circuits, so when a fault trips it, everything on that side goes off together. People often find out on a cold morning when the boiler, the fridge and the sockets have all been off overnight.
We replace those boards with a metal consumer unit that has a double-pole main switch and a Type A RCBO on every circuit. A fault on one circuit only switches off that circuit. That is the only type of board we fit. We do not install split-load or dual-RCD boards.
The other reason to change a board is space. Estate houses that have had a conservatory, an electric shower and a garden room added often have no spare ways left, and extra boxes have been mounted alongside. A new board takes everything back into one enclosure and leaves room for an EV charger later.
On the 1970s estates either side of the Fosse Way, the board is usually in the hallway, the understairs cupboard or the garage, often still the original. Original boards from that time have rewireable fuses and no RCD protection, so sockets that could supply equipment outdoors are unprotected. That is a C2 on an EICR.
In the older terraces near the centre and around Welton the board is sometimes in a cellar or a low cupboard. If that spot is damp, or awkward to reach in the dark, we discuss moving it as part of the job. The meter position stays where your supplier put it.
Newer houses on recent developments usually already have an RCD board in good order. For those, a full change is rarely needed and we will say so; adding a circuit is usually the better answer.
The price includes testing every circuit before and after, so you know the wiring behind the board is sound.
We quote each job on its own merits. The written quote follows a look at your board and a quick test of the circuits, either at a survey or from a phone and photo consultation, and the price is fixed before any work starts. Quotes are free.
Plan for the power to be off for most of a working day. Freezers stay cold if they are kept shut.

We fit RCBO boards across the villages around Midsomer Norton, including Paulton, where around 420 homes were built on the former printing works site between 2009 and 2015, and Chilcompton, Holcombe, Coleford, Farrington Gurney and High Littleton.
