Frome's BA11 housing stock is mixed, Georgian townhouses on Catherine Hill and Trinity, Victorian terraces, ex-mill conversions and modern estates around Critchill and Mount. The price depends on the tub's supply (a 13A plug-in, a 16A or 32A hardwired radial, or a larger swim spa), the distance from the consumer unit, the cable route and duct, and whether the board has room for a new RCBO. We quote each job on its own merits, with a fixed price in writing before we start.
Yes, we've done several in Frome. Mill conversions usually have exposed brick walls and timber floors, so cables either run in containment along beam lines or get fed through service voids. We always agree the route with the leaseholder and management company first if it's a shared building.
Yes, at least a Type A 30mA RCBO on every hot tub circuit. Hot tubs use VFDs (variable frequency drives) for pump speed control, which can generate DC residual currents that a Type AC RCD can't see. We follow the hot tub maker's documentation on RCD type and fit a Type B device where a variable-speed pump calls for one. We never use Type AC on hot tubs.
Distance isn't usually the limiting factor, cable size is. For a 32A run over 20m we'd typically use 6mm SWA; over 30m we'd up to 10mm to keep volt drop under 5%. We calculate this as part of the survey and confirm before pricing the cable run.
