Whether a home charger is straightforward depends mostly on two things: where you park, and how far that is from the consumer unit. A new house with an integral garage might be a short, simple run. A village house with parking across a garden can need a long armoured cable, and sometimes a trench.
We survey before we quote, looking at parking, the board, the main fuse and the earthing arrangement. You get a written price with the route, the charger and any extra work set out separately.
Every charger is on its own circuit with a Type A RCBO. BS 7671 requires each charge point to have its own 30 mA RCD plus DC fault protection, either a Type B RCD or a Type A RCD with a 6 mA DC detection device. The chargers we fit have the DC detection built in.
Most of Frome’s centre is a conservation area. If your house is listed, fixing a charger to its walls may need listed building consent, and in a conservation area it is sensible to choose a position that is not prominent from the street. We can mount the charger on a side wall, inside a garage or on a post by the parking space to keep it out of view.
Stone walls are common in the town and villages. Fixings go into sound stone or mortar as appropriate, cable entries are sealed, and the cable is routed along lines that are easy to miss.
New homes on the developments built on former industrial sites usually have driveways and modern boards with space for another circuit. Those installs are often the quickest we do.

We don't publish a guide price, because every install is different. The price depends on the charger you choose, the length of the cable run to your parking space and whether the board can take the new circuit. The survey confirms the route and the charger, and the written quote sets out exactly what is included, charger and all.
Most installs are completed in half a day once the survey is done and the charger is on site.
