Houses on the Isle of Wedmore are often bigger and more spread out than a town semi: Georgian houses around The Borough, Victorian villas, farmhouses with barns, garages and workshops in the yard. A rewire here is as much about planning as cable. We phase the work, bring the outbuildings into the same scheme, and fit it around any building work going on.

A larger or period property typically takes 2 to 3 weeks to rewire, against 5 to 10 working days for an ordinary three-bedroom house. With that many rooms, we split the job into phases, usually by floor or by wing, and agree the order at the start. One part of the house is opened up, rewired, switched over to the new board and closed again before the next begins.
Because circuits move across one at a time, you keep power in the parts of the house we are not working in. The new consumer unit goes in early so each finished phase lands on a board with an RCBO for every circuit.

Supplies to outbuildings are a common weak point in older rural installations. Typical problems are cables buried too shallow, run on the surface without protection, or fed from a socket in the house. On a rewire we look at every outbuilding and decide with you what each one needs:
If an EV charge point is on the wish list, it is worth planning the cable route at the same time. See EV charger installation in Wedmore.
Larger houses and those with outbuildings vary widely, so we don't publish a price list. Each rewire, partial rewire or consumer unit change is priced on its own, and outbuilding supplies and outdoor power are priced per run at the survey. You receive a fixed written price after the survey.
Before pricing, we check how the property is earthed, the condition of the supply cut-out and meter tails, and the main protective bonding to gas and water. On older rural properties these are not always what they should be. If the earthing arrangement needs work, we explain what and why at the survey, so it is part of the written price rather than a surprise on the day the board changes.

A rewire often makes sense alongside a renovation. That works well if the electrical work is planned with the builder rather than squeezed in afterwards.
Anonymised work from this year. The nearest is Wookey, about five miles east of Wedmore.
The Georgian houses around The Borough have tall rooms and several floors, so stair and landing lighting and the interlinked alarm layout take planning. Victorian villas are usually more regular. Converted barns and farmhouses out towards Theale, Blackford, Mudgley and the Westhay direction bring the outbuildings and long supply runs described above. For listed property, see heritage rewires in Wedmore. If the house may not need a full rewire, start with an EICR in Wedmore.
Leave your details and a line about the job. We will ring you back to talk it through and arrange a survey or a written price.
They can, but it is usually cheaper to include them now. The new board can be laid out with spare ways for outbuildings, and armoured cable routes are easier to plan while the ground and the house are being worked on anyway. If you do want to phase it, we leave clearly labelled provision so the later work connects cleanly.
Rarely. We work through the house in phases, usually a floor or a wing at a time, and the rest stays powered. The disruption is concentrated in one area at a time, with short planned power cuts as each circuit is switched over. If you would rather be away during the noisiest part, we can plan that phase around your dates.
Yes. We agree positions from the drawings, first fix while walls and ceilings are open, and come back for second fix once the plasterers and joiners have finished. Tell us who is managing the project and we will fit our visits into their programme.
Every rewire includes interlinked mains smoke alarms with sealed back-up batteries and a heat alarm in the kitchen. In a large house that means more devices: typically one in each circulation space on every level, plus others where the layout calls for them. Because they are interlinked, an alarm at one end of the house sounds them all.
Per property, after a survey. The price depends on the size, construction and access of the property, and a larger house with outbuildings will cost more because there are more circuits, longer runs and more rooms to work through. We list outbuilding supplies as separate lines so you can see what each one adds.
Priced by the job, not by the hour. A written, fixed price after a survey, NAPIT certification on every notifiable job.
